Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution is required; master's degree preferred
  • Five years of educational experience in a community college setting
  • Extensive knowledge of basic skills and curriculum admissions processes
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum programs, pre-requisites, and admissions processes
  • Colleague experience required
  • Solid organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Good communication skills

Position Description

The Academic Transition Coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact for Multiple Measures of Placement (MMP) under the new RISE Model for students who are not placed as part of the standard admissions process.

The Academic Transition Coordinator must possess extensive knowledge of the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS). The transition Coordinator will implement admissions processes for incoming students to enter curriculum gateway math and English courses or to enter transition and career studies for pre-gateway math and English instruction. This person must have a strong working knowledge of basic skills and curriculum course requirements, CCP/CTE pathways, Innovative High School initiatives, and authorized assessment tools for multi-divisional placement.

The duties of the Academic Transition Specialist include, but are not limited to:       

  • Act as a liaison between Curriculum and Transitional and Career Studies (Basic Skills) for the purpose of identifying gateway math and English requirements under the RISE model
  • Apply RISE Multiple Measures of Placement (MMP) in order to identify students' eligibility to enroll in curriculum and/or transition courses
  • Track all student records utilized in the admissions process for students requiring alternate placement
  • Report on students' progress in Colleague as they progress from transition to curriculum courses
  • Coordinate with the Director of Admissions to determine additional screening options for applicants
  • Coordinate with the Director of Transitional and Career Studies (Basic Skills) to determine enrollment in math and English transition courses
  • Collaborate with the Work-Based Learning Coordinator to identify career interest for undecided students.
  • Support the High School Programs Coordinator to assess CCP/CTE and CCRG placement
  • Collaborate with early college liaisons to follow enrollment guidelines under RISE
  • Coordinate with deans and department chairs to deliver enrollment projections and student transition information for math and English gateway courses.
