One - two years of work experience in an office setting including computer skills, knowledge and use of office equipment. Basic bookkeeping is preferred.
Demonstrated competency utilizing excel and basic data base programs.

Position Description
Statement of Primary Purpose
To function as the accounts payable accountant for Southwestern Community College.
Classification
Technical Support, full-time, non-exempt.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Process incoming requisitions, purchase orders and student refunds for payment; ensure budget codes are correct w/appropriate approvals
- Print and disperse accounts payable checks per appropriate timelines
- Update PCARD spreadsheet/process to each account monthly
- Process travel requests for payment, keep spreadsheet with all advance information, ensure travel is done according to regulations
- Process monthly use tax reports to include sending check to NCDOR
- Compile AP Accrual information at year end
- Verify all checks have been uploaded to the State Core Banking System before release
- Void checks and reissue as needed
- Track folder/sealer maintenance; order check stock and printer ribbons for check/business office printers
- Maintain and process escheat report
- Print monthly reports
- Scan all AP check copies/backup monthly into OnBase
- Open mail daily and disperse to appropriate personnel
- Attend tax training annually
- Assist during registration
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as 2nd backup to the Accountant – Cashier and relative Accountant – Receivables positions.
- Assist other department personnel as necessary

The work environment is climate controlled, clean and quiet. Must be available to work flexible hours during peak times.
