Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in business computing, programming, or related field with 
two or more years computer programming experience OR four or more years of computer programming experience 
•Knowledge of Microsoft .NET, Microsoft Visual Basic, C#/C++, Java EE, JavaScript, Microsoft SQL Server, and HTML
Work Experience:
•A minimum of one year of work experience implementing web based applications.

Preferred Qualifications

 

Associate’s degree in business computing, programming, or related field with 
two or more years computer programming experience OR four or more years of computer programming experience

Application Developer

Minimum Qualifications:

•SoftDocs integration and Ellucian Colleague customization experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

•Knowledge of programming languages and database management;
•Ability to establish, maintain, and promote effective communication and interpersonal relations across departmental lines and with associates as well as with the business community, higher education community, and general public;
•Knowledge and understanding of the educational needs of the Durham Technical Community College service area;
•Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to the needs and expectations of students, faculty, staff, and advisory or community groups;
•Demonstrated competence in verbal, written, and computer skills appropriate to the position; and 
•Knowledge and understanding of the mission and philosophy of the North Carolina Community College System.

Essential Functions

The Application Developer is responsible for the implementation of new and/or upgraded software on college computer systems that exchange information with or are part of the college’s Enterprise Resource Planning system, Colleague. The Application Developer will work with the Application Support Specialist, vendors, and campus departments to ensure that new software integrates with established systems. The Application Developer will work with the Application Support Specialist to ensure users are sufficiently trained and have sufficient documentation to effectively utilize the new software. If needed, the Applications Developer will prepare and document programming to ensure system integration. The Applications Developer will act as a backup administrator for systems as needed.

Job Duties

•Work collaboratively with departments regarding new software deployments;
•Recommending and implementing changes and enhancements to existing applications;
•Coding, testing debugging, documenting, and monitoring applications;
•Assist in the installation of replacement hardware and software;
•Make suggestions for improving user support and increasing equipment efficiency;
•Participate in the development and production of documentation for end users;
•Maintain a professional attitude at all times while working with users;
•Support the various activities of Information Technology Services;
•Act as a backup administrator for various systems;
•Serve on various college committees as assigned; and
•Perform additional duties or activities as assigned by the supervisor, division vice president, and/or the president.

•Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time;
•Ability to lift at times 10 to 30 lbs.;
•Work outside of the office setting; and
•Good eye/hand dexterity.
