Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business, Human Resources, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution and at least one year of experience is required. Exemplary interpersonal, communication, organizational, and customer service skills to assist in working with constituencies across the institution including diverse students, faculty, and staff at all levels. Applicants must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required. A valid North Carolina Driver’s License and a driving record that allows the applicant to be insurable under Wayne Community College’s auto insurance policy are required.

Preferred Qualifications

A Master’s degree is preferred. A National Career Readiness Certificate and bilingual in English and Spanish are preferred.

Position Description

The Career Service Counselor is responsible for planning and coordinating the activities and operations that support students in their career needs. The Applicant will assist with resumes, mock interviews, and online job services. The candidate will work with departmental staff to assist students with the career development and planning process, including information on companies, current job opportunities, employment, and hiring process, and making the transition from college to career; conduct class sessions, seminars, and workshops for students on career issues, resources, interviewing skills, resume building, job searching, professionalism, and other services as requested by various departments of the college. This includes offering career development activities that promote career awareness, exploration, and planning, including facilitating the college’s Work-Based Learning (WBL) program, and serving as an informational resource to faculty, staff, and students as it relates to career services. The applicant will have to teach Work-Based Learning courses as needed for academic programs. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Apprenticeships and Career Development.
