Position Description

Job Summary:

The Circulation Desk Assistant is responsible for fulfilling daily activities at the circulation desk.

 

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • perform activities in the circulation and technical services area such as checking in and checking out materials, registering patrons and collecting fines, etc.
  • perform basic cataloging of materials
  • shelve library materials and read shelves
  • answer directional questions and refer patrons to appropriate personnel
  • sort and route mail
  • repair books and materials
  • answer the telephone

 

Related Responsibilities:

  • assist in training work-study students
  • assist with interlibrary loan services
  • assist patrons where needed in locating information and ready-reference questions
  • perform other related work as required

     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • ability to relate to students, faculty and staff in a congenial and professional manner
  • ability to speak and write effectively
  • a working knowledge of the functions and characteristics of computer-based library systems preferred
  • a working knowledge of Microsoft Office; including Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
  • ability to troubleshoot basic computer and printer problems
  • a working knowledge of online databases for research
