Position Description
The Communications Specialist will provide technical, administrative, operational and managerial support to the Student Success and Communications team at Davidson County Community College. The Communications Specialist is responsible for day-to-day project management, technical input, and coordination among partners to promote institutional visibility and brand awareness. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, creative insight, an understanding of effective communication practices and the ability to work independently and under tight deadlines. This position reports to the Vice President, Student Success and Communications.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitates communications between the Student Success and Communications team and internal stakeholders
- Manages projects through effective communications with partners, development of timelines, prioritization of project details, implementation of project plans, and archival of project files
- Assists in the development of internal and external communications, both print and digital, keeping in line with appropriate guidelines, tone, and relevance
- Receives inquiries and requests for support from the Student Success and Communications team, routes request to appropriate channels, and provides accurate, detailed assessment of needs
- Organizes, updates, and maintains shared libraries and shared files
- Coordinates administrative requirements in relation to vendors, contracts and partnerships
- Identifies newsworthy topics, individuals, and events to promote through various channels
- Conducts research via online, interview, or other information gathering methods
- Adheres to ADA guidelines when developing, approving, or reviewing communication materials
- Captures photos and videos at campus events and for promoting the institution
- Assists with arranging travel for personnel, including booking hotel and airline reservations, arranging advanced payment, and assigning budget codes
- Participates in department brainstorming, idea generation, and planning
- Provides general office management and support services
- Compiles reports on the assessment and success of divisional efforts to demonstrate effectiveness of programs and services
- Maintains high level of sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds
- Performs other duties as assigned that achieve the mission and initiatives of the college

ADA Summary:
ADA requirements for this position include critical thinking skills with the ability to process information and exercise good judgment; ease of mobility within the work environment and other areas of campus and College locations; travel between campus locations may be required; and effective use of all forms of communication including use of computers.
Salary Range:
$25,691 - $33,398 based on candidate's experience, education, and the state budget
