Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate in Applied Science Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Culinary Arts from a regionally accredited institution
  • Three years of verifiable work experience in the restaurant or hospitality industry
  • ServSafe Certification or the ability to obtain one within four months of the hire date

Position Description

Program management duties include the following:

  • Formulate, recommend, and implement necessary curriculum changes and be knowledgeable of and implement changes made at the state level or other mandate
  • Revise course content and objectives as required
  • Develop new courses in field as required
  • Make textbook/equipment and instructional materials selections
  • Collaborate with Dean in new program development, certificates and pathways
  • Maintain contacts with business, industry, and professional organizations for the purpose of keeping instructional programs current with occupational or academic field
  • Attend various meetings, seminars and conferences to maintain current in field
  • Prepare and submit a semester instructional schedule including the assignment of instructors for specific classes
  • Prepare and submit a recommended budget for program including any required travel, materials and supplies, equipment, adjunct instruction
  • Evaluate and recommend materials; make recommendations regarding supply and equipment needs
  • Advise and assist with classroom and lab renovation and equipment update planning and implementation
  • Order all equipment and supplies for program
  • Oversee and certify an annual equipment inventory
  • Participate in the development and implementation of articulation agreements and promote student participation in such programs 
  • Chair annual advisory committee meetings, and present program outcomes and descriptions in advisory committee meetings
  • Elicit and apply employer input and feedback concerning program goals, student outcomes and student job performance
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an ongoing program evaluation process
  • Complete the program review process in Compliance Assist

 Advising and Recruitment duties include the following:

  • Serve as an academic advisor for program
  • Participate in college-wide efforts to recruit and retain students by participating in Career Day type events
  • Assist with program publications, publicity and other marketing events
  • Maintain contacts with business, industry, and professional organizations for the purpose of marketing program and students
  • Make presentations to outside agencies as a representative of the program and college

 Personnel management duties include the following:

  • Oversee the recruitment, screening, and selection of adjunct
  • Complete intent to hire forms and make sure all personnel paperwork is complete for adjuncts
  • Supervise and mentor adjunct/instructors within the department
  • Train adjunct in Moodle, syllabi compliance, and SLO and PLO requirements
  • Ensure instructors/adjunct are kept current of all departmental and college policies and are in compliance -10% forms, attendance, final course grades, etc.
  • Oversee the appropriate teaching loads and various duties of program instructors/adjunct

 Supervision duties will vary with program adjunct needs.

Instructors must be able to teach at times and locations that meet the needs of students. This position may be required to teach evening, blended, and/or online courses, as well as traditional daytime courses.  This position may be asked to teach at multiple campuses and learning centers within Avery, Mitchell, and Yancey counties.
