A Master’s degree registered dental hygienist with certified dental assisting credential and four-handed dentistry experience is required to serve as Department Chair for the dental hygiene and dental assisting programs. Proficiency with commonly used computer software is required. Instruction in educational theory and techniques is required. Applicants must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and proven leadership abilities.
Community college or post-secondary teaching experience is preferred. Excellent financial and management skills are preferred. Knowledge of national accreditation is preferred. Bilingual is preferred.
The position provides leadership and management of programs in the dental department to include: curricula/program development; compliance and evaluation; planning and accountability; budgeting and procurement of financial and clinical resources; supervision of student admission, progression, and graduation; participation in required special events including faculty meetings, orientations, and graduation; recruitment activities; participation in planning processes; adherence to achieving learning outcomes; instruction of students; teach 9-12 contact hours per semester; participate in dental assisting and dental hygiene clinical practice; recruitment and supervision of faculty; faculty evaluations; marketing and public relations, and coordination with Division Dean of Allied Health and Public Services for departmental operations. In addition, this position demonstrates a commitment to creating a culture that encourages excellence, professional development, continued competence in area of responsibility and an understanding of diverse backgrounds of students and employees.
