  • Associates degree in Criminal Justice
  • 10 years’ experience in law enforcement
  • Current General and High Liability instructor’s certification
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience as an instructor and QA in a NC Community College BLET program
  • Current sworn law enforcement officer

Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under limited supervision, provides leadership and direction of BLET program. The Director of Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is responsible for providing vision, direction and oversight of all activities within the department. The position provides classroom and lab instruction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director is responsible for supervising the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program of Brunswick Community College.  Plans and coordinates all courses of instruction.  Provides guidance and supervision to all part-time instructors.  Directs and supervises the duties of assigned staff to include: instructing assigning, allocating personnel.  Presents course information to the NC Department of Justice; receives reviews, prepares, and/or submits various records and reports including student lesson plans, student attendance, student evaluations, timesheets, bills, invoices, vehicle orders, etc.  Participates in the selection of new part-time employees, acts on employee issues, provides instructor support; interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals, i.e. municipal law enforcement, Sheriff’s Department, students, instructors, staff, etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associates degree in Criminal Justice
  • 10 years’ experience in law enforcement

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position supervises Qualified Assistant and part-time faculty
