Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Student Services, business, accounting, higher education, or other related field required. Must have documentable, proven success as a leader in a college, school, or business.  Management experience in student services, accounting, or other financial/professional setting.  Ability to think critically and creatively, and have a high standard of integrity. Ability to provide effective leadership and demonstrate excellent customer service skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the community. Able and willing to work extended hours during peak times. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in college financial aid preferred. 

Position Description

General Description of the Position:

The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for the overall leadership, supervision, and management of the Financial Aid Office.  The Director of Financial Aid is expected to perform at the highest level of professional service and to assure that staff under their supervision provide consistent and accurate financial aid advice to students, parents, and all stakeholders.  This position requires close adherence to and compliance with all federal and state financial aid laws, regulations, guidelines, and operating procedures.  The Director of Financial Aid reports to the Vice President of Student Services for day to day operations and additionally to the Executive Vice President and CFO for financial responsibilities.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Position:

  1. Supervises, trains, and evaluates departmental staff; works with staff to assign responsibilities, determines department priorities and procedures, and ensures cross-training occurs.  Monitors workflow and makes adjustments as needed.
  2. Coordinates federal, state, and college programs to meet deadline dates and reporting responsibilities; act as a liaison with federal, state, and private agencies regarding student financial aid; represent the college at the regional and State financial aid meetings.
  3. Provides oversight to ensure proper reconciliations of all financial aid funds with financial aid and Business Office staff.  Responsible for the accuracy of all financial aid disbursements.
  4. Responsible for maintaining and ensuring compliance with Title IV Financial Aid regulations as they pertain to college policies and operations.
  5. Develops, implements, and revises policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations.  Responsible for the development and implementation of college policies as they relate to financial and institutional aid.
  6. Oversees and ensures that the College’s Veterans’ Benefits certification process is efficient, timely, and accurate.  Also ensures that the college is in compliance with VA regulations, and is monitoring student progress and updating records.
  7. Maintains and updates the Financial Aid Policies and Procedures manual as needed.
  8. Oversees Satisfactory Academic Appeal (SAP) process for students seeking reinstatement of financial aid eligibility.
  9. Assists in the coordination of the selection, awarding, and administering of scholarships in cooperation with the Associate Vice President of Development.
  10. Monitors reports, which identify students subject to return to Title IV aid policy.  Ensures calculations and necessary adjustments are made and notifications are sent.
  11. Ensures the maintenance of confidentiality for records and files.
  12. Ensures accountability of financial aid monies and serves as the internal compliance officer for financial aid.
  13. Participates in student recruitment, registration, and financial aid informational activities.
  14. Actively participates in workshops, training sessions, conferences, and other meetings.
  15. Ensures consumer information on financial aid is updated on the website.
  16. Other duties. (Willingness to accept and fulfill additional assignments).
