Minimum Qualifications and Degree Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university required.   A minimum of 3 years’ experience in educational program management and supervision.  Possess an understanding of and commitment to the unique nature and role of College and Career Readiness.

Position Description

Position Description:

The Director is responsible for the overall administrative functions of the division, including the Adult High School Diploma, English Language Learners, High School Equivalency Test Preparation, Adult Basic Education, Adult Secondary Education, Prison Programming and RISE Studies programs and services provided by the College. On a day-to-day basis, the Director is a facilitator for the overall operation.  Responsible for lesson plan development and classroom instruction. The Director is a source of information and advocate for all of the programs, activities, and services of the division.  On a broader scope, the Director has primacy of responsibility for finding and/or establishing priorities, including but not limited to, equipment acquisition, allocation of material and supply funds, travel, program publicity and recruitment, and contact with schools and other external agencies.  

 

Supervises: Assistant to the Director of College and Career Readiness, Test Administrator/Retention Specialist, and part-time instructors.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate activities of the programs and services within the division.
  • Prepare students for post-secondary education or a career by improving their reading, writing, and math skills, preparing for the high school equivalency exam, learning English, and improving their general academic skills.
  • Lesson plan preparation.
  • Incorporating contextualized instruction and/or differentiated instruction.
  • Appropriate integration of technology.
  • Review programs and activities within the division and make appropriate recommendations for changes through the process of institutional planning.
  • Facilitate and approve program implementation and evaluation.
  • Coordinate faculty teaching assignments.
  • Recommend faculty for employment, reappointment, probation, and termination.
  • Orient new faculty and staff.
  • Coordinate and cooperate with other division Deans.
  • Implement and interpret institutional, divisional, and program policies.
  • Facilitate interactions between the division and other agencies in the community.
  • Evaluate divisional activities and personnel.
  • Monitor FTE production of full- and part-time staff.
  • Coordinate student recruitment for divisional programs.
  • Implement and disseminate federal, state, and institutional policies as they relate to College and Career Readiness.
  • Maintain adequate records and disburse information.
  • Prepare and submit grants for special projects within College and Career Readiness.
  • Make initial recommendations on requests for travel, textbooks, leaves, and purchases.
  • Maintain divisional budgets.
  • Prepare reports using divisional data as requested.
  • Perform other duties as determined by the Dean of Continuing Education.

 

Difficulty of Work:

The Director of College and Career Readiness must be able to communicate with staff, faculty, students, and the community effectively.  The Director must be able to design and implement a plan to facilitate the transition of students from pre-college programs into curriculum or continuing education training programs.  The Director must possess or develop relationships with local public agencies and the community to facilitate continuous enrollment and community engagement.
