Minimum Qualifications

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for the leadership, support and coordination of the Human Resources department in compliance with federal and state regulations, rules established by the North Carolina Community College system, and policies and procedures approved by Blue Ridge Community College Board of Trustees.  This position requires flexibility and receptivity to changing technologies, methods, processes, and organizational structure and practices.   

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Human Resources, Business, or other related field.  Master’s degree in Human Resources preferred.

Experience: 

Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience.  Human Resources experience in higher education preferred.  PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM SCP certification preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:
Will possess strong personal and professional integrity, good verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety.  Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, HRIS & database systems, College email and website, and other computer applications associated with the position.   Must demonstrate competency in human resource principles, techniques and procedures as well as strategies to assess and resolve human resource issues.  Experience with and/or knowledge of applicable human resource-related statutes and regulations, such as the ADA, ADEA, EEO, COBRA, FMLA, HIPAA, OSHA and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Additional Skills:
• Preparation of departmental budget, organizational salary management, and benefit reconciliations. 
• Compliance audit principles and procedures.  
• Ability to prepare clear, complete, and concise reports.  
• Ability to function in a managerial capacity for a division or organizational unit.

Physical Demands:
The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
