Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Math/Statistics, Social Sciences, Education, or other related field. 
  • Experience working in a College or university setting.
  • Experience in planning and assessment.

 

Job-Specific Characteristics and Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret and present information, including strong data visualization skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and SAS or other statistical software.
  • Proficient in using Colleague and Informer to retrieve data.
  • Understanding of accreditation requirements and the reaccreditation process.
  • Strong organization and project management skills.

The Director of Research and Institutional Effectiveness is a Cabinet-level position serving as the research and data coordinator for the College, which includes reporting to outside agencies, providing historical enrollment and student success data, coordinating internal surveys, analyzing results, and ensuring that data is valid and reliable. The position is responsible for overseeing the College’s institutional effectiveness planning, including strategic planning, outcomes assessment, and program reviews. The Director also serves as the College’s SACSCOC Liaison.EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:Institutional Research:

  • Coordinates all College reporting to outside agencies, including sending reminders of deadlines and fielding data questions related to reports.
  • Provides data as requested by external agencies.
  • Reviews requests for research conducted at ACC and collaborates with relevant College faculty and staff on those requests.
  • Supervises the Data Technician.
  • Oversees the development, administration, and analysis of internal surveys. 
  • Manages all internal requests for historical enrollment and success data.
  • Provides program-related data and assistance with data analysis.
  • Provides orientation, training, and ongoing support for faculty and staff related to the NCCCS Dashboards.
  • Ensures that valid and reliable data is provided to meet the decision-making and planning needs of the College.

Institutional Effectiveness:

  • Coordinates the College’s institutional effectiveness planning, including the strategic planning process, student learning outcomes assessment, administrative services and student support outcomes assessment, and Curriculum and Continuing Education program reviews.
  • Manages the preparation of the annual Institutional Effectiveness Report and other planning documents, as necessary.
  • Chairs the Institutional Effectiveness Committee.
  • Serves on the Curriculum and Instruction Committee and Academic Policies Committee.
  • Serves on the President’s Cabinet.
  • Provides orientation and training for department heads and directors on the Program Review process.
  • Provides orientation, training, and ongoing support for faculty and staff in the outcomes assessment process.
  • Coordinates the College’s NCCCS curriculum program applications, working with the Vice President of Instruction/CAO, Deans, and Department Heads.
  • Provides data for development of strategic plans, and provides reports on strategic plan progress to the campus community.
  • Provides regular updates to the Board of Trustees on strategic planning, institutional dashboard/performance metrics, and SACSCOC accreditation and reporting.

SACSCOC Accreditation Liaison Responsibilities:

  • Is the coordinator for SACSCOC reaffirmation and substantive change at ACC.
  • Is responsible for completing all SACSCOC required annual reporting.
  • Attends the SACSCOC Annual Meeting in December and other SACSCOC conferences or workshops as needed throughout the year. May require out of state travel.
  • Serves as co-chair of the SACSCOC Leadership Team for Reaffirmation.
  • Assists faculty, staff, and administrators in maintaining compliance with SACSCOC requirements when curriculum changes are proposed and when College policies and procedures are adopted and revised.
  • Provides orientation and training for College employees related to SACSCOC processes and reporting.
  • Seeks consultation with SACSCOC staff on questions that arise on campus regarding interpretations of standards and policies, and the preparation of the various documents required during the reaffirmation process.
  • Serves as the campus authority on institutional accreditation, including substantive change policies and procedures, outcomes assessment, and the Principles of Accreditation.
  • Receives and shares with relevant College staff updates and communications from SACSCOC throughout the year.
  • Coordinates the College’s substantive change notifications and approvals, working with the Vice President of Instruction/CAO, Deans, and faculty to create letters of notification and approval as well as prospectuses when required.
  • Manages the production of SACSCOC reports; creates timelines with due dates for the drafting and revision of SACSCOC reports, including Compliance Certification, Quality Enhancement Plan, Fifth-Year Interim Report, Referral Reports, prospectuses, etc.; serves as the administrator for accreditation and institutional effectiveness technology platforms such as Anthology and Compliance Assist.
  • Assists the CEO in ensuring the accuracy of all information submitted to SACSCOC.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Vice President, provides monthly updates to the President regarding the College’s progress on major SACSCOC reports.

Other:

  • Manages special projects and tasks as assigned by the President and/or Executive Vice President.
  • Manages the departmental budget.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
