  • One or more years of experience in an instructional setting as a tutor, teacher, or trainer are preferred.

Position Description

DEFINITION:

CFCC’s Truck Driver Training program teaches proper driving procedures, safe driver responsibility, commercial motor vehicle laws and regulations, and the basic principles and practices for operating commercial vehicles. The program also administers CDL (commercial driver’s license) testing to the students. Instructors will provide instruction in, motor vehicle laws and regulations, map reading, vehicle maintenance, safety procedures, daily logs, defensive driving, freight handling, security, and fire protection. Instructors will use highway driving, training range exercises, online and classroom lectures to develop the student’s knowledge and skills.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives general supervision from the Program Director of TDT and Director of Workforce Readiness.
  • Exercises no supervision

 

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

 

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTION STATEMENTS:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Essential functions:

  • Provide online, classroom, driving pad and on-the-road instruction to students in day and evening classes
  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities
  • Prepare driving pad for daily/nightly activities
  • Develop and prepare supplement materials to enhance lessons
  • Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance; grade record individual scores
  • Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop driving pad and on the road assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance
  • Maintain and submit all required paperwork in a neat, accurate and timely fashion, also enter grading and online attendance information in Self Service within deadlines.
  • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelines
  • Maintain the driving pad area that is safe and clean.
  • Ensure trucks are safe, clean and ready for each class.
  • Follow all OSHA rules regarding a safe workplace.
  • Stay current on and follow all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration guidelines. 
  • Be able to monitor, provide feedback and grade online courses like CDL Permit Prep and Hazmat Endorsement Prep

Other Important Functions:

  • Assess the relevance and impact of various lessons and recommend improvements as needed
  • Oversee and participate in both driving range and road exercises with students
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned

 

Qualifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

  • FMCSA Guidelines and Regulations
  • Knowledge and experience operating various trucks including: 48’ - 53’  trailers, tanker, low-boy, pup trailers, flatbeds.
  • Classroom and driving range instructional techniques and procedures
  • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional techniques and procedures
  • Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment
  • Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration

Ability To:

  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and students. 
  • Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
    • Making observations
    • Reading and writing
    • Communicating with others
    • Operating assigned equipment
    • Handling varied tasks simultaneously
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:
    • Standing or sitting for extended periods of time
    • Operating assigned equipment
    • Handling varied tasks simultaneously 
    • Bending, stooping, climbing, or lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of:
    • Making sound decisions
    • Responding to questions
    • Demonstrating intellectual capabilities
    • Maintain their CDL A License and DOT Physical.
