Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum of two years’ experience writing grants with proven success;
• Previous experience with non-profit fundraising; preferably within education
• Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals;
• Strong editing skills;
• Knowledge of fundraising information sources;
• Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors;
• Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research;
• Experience working in deadline-driven environments;
• Ability to monitor and meet income goals;
• Ability to work independently, under minimal supervision, to make decisions about how to target and manage multiple grant projects;
• Extremely organized with great attention to detail;

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or communications;
• Expertise with NetSuite software;
• Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies;

Organization Overview:
The South Piedmont Community College Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization established to receive tax-exempt contributions to support the mission of the college and the needs of its students. With new and exciting initiatives being pursued by the college, the Foundation is facing exciting opportunities and seeks to fill a new position that will be an essential member of the Foundation team that will help shape the future of SPCC!

Position Summary:
The Grant Writer is a part-time position (up to 27.5 hours per week) located primarily on the Old Charlotte Highway Campus in Monroe, NC. Under the direction of the Foundation Director, the Grant Writer will play an integral role in moving the SPCC Foundation forward by securing grants from and submitting reports to public agencies, private foundations, and corporations in support of the college. This includes, researching and writing proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects as well as capital needs to support the school through the foundation. This position is also responsible for managing the process for tracking all grants and submitting timely and accurate reports as required.

Job Duties

• Conduct the full range of activities required to research, prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources;
• Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to grow the prospect pool for submitting grants;
• Work with necessary departments to gather information needed for writing proposals and reporting to funders;
• Comply with all grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors;
• Gain an understanding of institutional history and programs;
• Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting;
• Assist with other projects as requested;
