Minimum Qualifications

  •  Associates Degree* from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Experience in recruiting and coaching high school or college athletics
  • Excellent computer skills in programs such as MS Word, Excel, and Access
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Exemplary organizational and customer service skills with commitment to the holistic development of the individual
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment without close supervision
  • Excellent analytical skills with ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Understanding of the community college mission and higher education in general as it relates to academic performance
  • Effectiveness in the following College organizational competencies:
    • Translating College purpose, values, and vision into organizational action
    • Collaborating and facilitating with college personnel and community agencies and organizations
    • Creating and innovating
    • Anticipating and responding to change
    • Providing vision and leadership 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with Datatel computer systems
  • Experience NCHSAA and or NJCAA athletics
  • Golf coaching experience
  • Community college experience
  • CPR and Defibrillator certification
  • Valid driver's license and CDL license

Position Description

The Head Golf Coach is responsible for planning, managing, coordinating, operating, and evaluating the Men's and Women's Golf program at the College in collaboration with the Director, Student Athletics.  This position reports to the Director, Student Athletics and Wellness and is expected to adhere to and maintain compliance of the rules and regulations of the National Junior College Athletic Association and is responsible for the fiscal maintenance of the athletics budget and resources.  In addition the Head Golf Coach will collaborate with the Academic Advisor and the Director, Student Athletics and Wellness to ensure student athletes adhere to the academic plan and standards set by the college. This is a stipend-funded, part-time position $6000.
 
The Head Golf Coach reports to the Director, Student Athletics and Wellness.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary Duties – May include, but not limited to the following: 

  • Consult with the Director, Student Athletics on all matters of intercollegiate athletics not limited to but including: eligibility, recruitment, safety, player retention, behavior issues, equipment needs, red shirting, insurance, travel and all other areas of DCCC athletics.
  • In collaboration with the Director, Student Athletics and Wellness manage and direct the Men's and Women's Golf program.
  • Provide direction to the assistant coaching staff and provide feedback during the evaluation process.
  • Plan and direct athletic events including practices and games.
  • Coordinate recruitment of potential players.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Student Athletics and Wellness, the Regional Athletic Directors and coaches to develop a competitive match schedule.
  • Plan and direct athletic skill development for student-athletes.
  • Commit to and adhere to all policies, rules and regulations set forth by the team, college, and the NJCAA.
  • Maintain necessary records and complete required paperwork in a specified time. All records must be maintained confidentially.
  • Complete and maintain appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
  • Teach student athletes conflict resolution, time management and other life skills.
  • Use the administrative and reporting structure to provide student athletes with academic support.
  • Assists the Director, Student Athletics and Wellness with alumni relations and fundraising.
  • Ensure appropriate safety measures are observed when conducting team activities.
  • In coordination with the Director, Student Athletics and Wellness, and the Academic Advisor assigned to athletes, monitor student-athlete academic performance to support successful academic performance and program completion.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned that support the mission and initiatives of the Men's and Women's Golf program, athletics and the college.

ADA SUMMARY:

ADA requirements for this position include critical thinking skills with the ability to process information and exercise good judgment; ability to guide and instruct group and individual fitness programs; ease of mobility within the office setting and other areas of campus; ability to move equipment under 50 pounds; effective use of all forms of communication (oral, auditory, visual), including use of the computer; and the ability to perform general office duties.
