Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in Instructional Design or related field (e.g. Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Education, etc.)
Three years of relevant experience working with instructional design and technology-related projects. 
Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles and pedagogical strategies.
Experience developing instructional learning material and providing user support services.
Consultation skills to assess user needs, content, and identify gaps.
Experience working with subject matter experts.
Ability to work independently or in teams, collaborate with others, lead projects, and provide excellent customer service.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Quality Matters rubric and peer review model
Experience with various multimedia creation tools such as Camtasia and Articulate Storyline or Rise.
Experience with synchronous tools such as PolyCom, Google Hangouts, and Blackboard Collaborate.
Experience with Learning Management Systems such as Moodle.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Instructional Designer supports student success through working with faculty in course design consultation, guided implementation of new teaching strategies and assessment methods, and supporting the use of technology to enhance learning.  This position reports directly to the Director, Learning Design.  The Instructional Designer has the following responsibilities:

  • Research, design, develop, administer, and facilitate group and one-on-one professional development activities for faculty with regard to various instructional technology and design topics such as andragogical best practices, course design, learning theory, effective use of instructional technology tools, high impact practices, accessibility, and compliance requirements.
  • Serve as a consultant to faculty with regard to course design, development of program and course level assessments, and assessment methods and tools to achieve student learning outcomes.
  • Through consultation with faculty, design and develop digital media assets to enhance instruction and support the attainment of student learning outcomes.  Remain proficient in the use of digital media tools and software.
  • Participate in the implementation and continual assessment/improvement of the course quality assurance process led by the Coordinator, Learning Design.
  • Provide frontline user support to faculty and troubleshooting for course management systems and other instructional systems.
  • Manage and maintain a learning management system and other instructional technology systems, including testing upgrades and maintaining user accounts and permissions.
  • Monitor developments in the field of instructional design and technology to remain current on innovative and effective strategies and practices; evaluate, select, and assess new instructional technology tools, strategies, and resources.
  • Manage multiple projects on various timelines from development to delivery to assessment; collaborate with partners on cross-campus projects.
  • Participate in department meetings.
  • Attend College meetings.
  • Serve on College committees as appropriate.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned that support the mission and initiatives of the College.
