Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of area -- human support services

Experience with Blackboard an on line teaching tool, is preferred.

Able to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning

Good organizational skills

Innovative, creative, motivated and work well with others

Ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills

Able to maintain records accurately and able to meet deadlines consistently

Able to perform normal duties with minimal supervision

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Demonstrate resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential


Requires a Master's degree in a Human Services related field

Currently credentialed Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS) or other current credential from the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board

One year of full-time teaching OR equivalent part-time teaching experience

Two years experience working in the substance abuse field

Preferred Qualifications


Masters degree in Social Work (MSW)

Three years full-time teaching in the area of psychology/human services and/or community college teaching experience.

Position Description

This position is responsible for providing effective instruction in assigned courses.

*Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner.

*Develops and updates curriculum course outlines, course descriptions and course objectives

*Provide advising and academic planning for students

*Develops supplemental instructional materials such as handouts, films, slides and videotapes

Responsible for creating optimum learning environment

Maintains office hours

Actively participate in the creation and improvement of departmental processes and procedures

Collaborate with student success initiatives

Selects texts and continually reviews new texts

Involved in curricular changes and program development

Reviews changes in course documentation

Participates in graduation exercises 

Promotes continuous improvement by completing an annual applied benchmark project on an individual or a group basis
