Minimum Qualifications

Educational & Certification Requirements:

Minimum requirements: 

· Associates degree in Surgical Technology or related health sciences field of study from a regionally accredited college/university with the ability to obtain a Bachelor’s degree within three years of hire

· Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting 

· Current CPR-BLS (basic life support level)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Professional Experience:

Minimum requirements: 

· Two years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both within the last five years

· Post-secondary teaching and/or industry training experience in Surgical Technology curriculum in any of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminar

Preferred Qualifications

Position Description

Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, developing curriculum courses, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field.  He/she will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college. 

Under general supervision, this individual will develop, prepare, and teach Surgical Technology courses within the department and assist with the organization, administration, continuous review, planning development, and general effectiveness of clinical experiences for students enrolled in the surgical technology program. Instructional responsibilities require a broad-based knowledge of the surgical technology field of study and surgical technology in the health industry. Faculty will also be responsible for advising and recruiting students and collaborating with business and industry partners to provide necessary training and education. The individual must meet (ARC/STSA) certification and credentialing requirements to function in the Surgical Technology Program and the health facilities’ clinical sites.
