Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, instructional technology, computer science, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution and experience in the following areas:  
  • Learning Management System, preferably Moodle.
  • Conferencing tools such as Big Blue Button, WebEx, MS Teams and/or Zoom.
  • Collaboration tools in synchronous learning environments.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Ability to prioritize, schedule, and meet deadlines.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in instructional design, instructional technology, computer science, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution and the following experience: 
  • Three years of experience in effectively managing and maintaining a learning management system, either Moodle or Blackboard.
  • Experience with supporting online learning environments.
  • Proven ability to develop instructional applications that are based on pedagogically sound principles and practices.
  • Higher education faculty and student development experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of and skill in designing courses.
  • Knowledge of ADA, QM Standards, ACUE Standards, and Universal Design best practices in the classroom.
  • Knowledge of copyright, fair use, and appropriate use of digital media in online learning environments.

Position Description

The Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator will be responsible for managing and administering Vance-Granville Community College’s (VGCC) Learning Management System, Moodle while working with all academic units to develop and implement the online component of curriculum and continuing education classes. The LMS Administrator will work under the supervision of the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning. This role will also implement VGCC’s online instructional tools, provide faculty and student support, and work with the Institution’s LMS vendors as well as facilitate faculty development for new initiatives to promote student learning, student equity, and student success. 
 
This is a hybrid position with both remote and on campus requirements. This position is assigned to the VGCC Main Campus in Henderson, NC; although, some travel to other counties in the college’s service area is possible. Consistent with VGCC’s Teleworking Policy, this position is eligible for up to 3 days per week of telework after the first 6 months of employment.

Essential Duties:

  • Manage and administer VGCC’s LMS, including but not limited to maintaining system updates and maintenance, creating and copying courses, automating processes, troubleshooting issues, enrollment management, third-party software integration, and providing support to students, faculty, and staff. 
  • Responsible for the day-to-day logistical requirements of the LMS and upholding related policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Clone courses and create new course shells as needed for each curriculum, professional development, and continuing education enrollment period.
  • Enroll faculty, staff and students in online courses.
  • Open and close online courses.
  • Retrieve Census Reports and other reports as needed. 
  • Assist Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning and Instructional Designer as needed to support curriculum/continuing education programs and courses.
  • Provide administrative, informational, and technical support for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Administer the creation and maintenance of instructor, staff, and student accounts in the LMS.
  • Maintain a procedure manual for the LMS.
  • Ensure that courses are appropriately backed-up and storage limits are not exceeded.
  • Responsible for the effective implementation of all learning technologies.
  • Work closely with colleagues to test, document, demonstrate, and recommend Learning Technologies, tools, and other applications for course development.
  • Advise faculty on trends, techniques, and best practices in educational technologies, uses and applications.
  • Work closely with faculty on course development to incorporate learning technologies in all modalities.
  • Partner with Academic Deans, Department Chairs, and Program Heads regarding faculty development, online course audits, and curricular assessment.
  • Manage the development of training documentation for students, faculty and staff on VGCC’s LMS and other online technologies.
  • Communicate with the North Carolina Community College System Distance Learning office and eLearning Technology vendors for technology solutions and works with regional Teaching and Learning hub. 
  • Participate in the strategic planning for the Center for Teaching and Learning and Distance Education areas.
  • Work with the Vice President of Institutional Research and Technology and Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning to develop distance education policies and procedures and related reports, maintain documents to ensure that VGCC is in compliance with Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA), Department of Education (DOE), Southern Regional Board of Education (SREB), and any other Federal and State requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining the Center for Teaching and Learning website.
  • Ensure the incorporation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Quality Matters, Universal Design, and Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) standards in course design and delivery utilizing the LMS.
  • Participate in professional development activities and required employee training. 
  • Promote a campus culture that values and recognizes the importance of teaching excellence, student learning, and effective teaching practices.
  • Support outreach, awareness, marketing, and collaboration by participating on assigned College committees; in local, state, and professional organizations, and representing the College at professional conferences and workshops. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
