Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School diploma or equivalency. An associate degree in a related field is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
Four years or more of experience in the performance of the full range of journey level tasks associated with two or more highly complex mechanical or building trades, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, proficient computer skills, analytical aptitude, knowledge of local, state, and national codes pertaining to assigned trades and ability to perform the trades at journey level. Desire experience operating a forklift and operating personal lift equipment.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to focus.
Licensing Requirement:
Valid North Carolina Driver’s License. Must maintain a good driving record on and off the job and must be able to operate a vehicle on behalf of the College.

Position Description
Carteret Community College is accepting applications for a full-time Maintenance Technician II. Benefits include pension, paid sick leave, paid vacation leave, 12 paid holidays per year, low-cost health insurance, and low-cost optional insurance benefits such as vision and dental.

The Maintenance Technician II performs highly skilled maintenance and repair of plumbing, heating/cooling, carpentry, and electrical systems; familiar with blueprints reading, standard concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the construction field; performs advanced technical duties; data entry; responds to emergencies during off-duty times as needed.
Essential Duties include:
- Maintenance and repair of various mechanical systems, including plumbing, heating/cooling, and electrical systems.
- Experience in carpentry,
- Knowledge of and ability to read blueprints.
- Must be able to work closely in conjunction with the Facilities Manager, and other members of the departments' staff.
- Attend departmental and college meetings.
- Follow through to completion of work orders.
- Responsible for periodic reports, inspections, inventory, and time sheet.
- Collaborates with Director and Manager in coordinating, implementing, and maintaining short and long-range preventative maintenance programs.
- Proficient computer skills and data entry
- Assists with College events as needed.
Working Conditions and Environment: The employee is exposed to outside weather conditions. Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, risk of shock and/or vibration, and loud noises at times. Some evening work may be required.
