Position Description

Sandhills Community College seeks applications for a full-time, 9 month Massage Instructor. Instructional duties will include teaching topics in Massage Therapy, using a variety of delivery modes: traditional classroom, online, hybrid, laboratory, and clinical applications. Additional faculty duties include assisting with student recruitment, advising students and performing support duties as assigned by the department chair. Class sessions will take place on the Sandhills Community College campus. Ability to integrate with other disciplines and support technology programs is a plus. Interviews for the position will include a teaching demonstration and an oral/written assessment conducted in a computer environment.  

The instructor will provide instruction in therapeutic massage. He/she will be responsible for delivery of information provided in lesson plans including lecture and demonstration through hands-on techniques and clinical lab experiences. He/she will present qualifications as required by the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy, to include a minimum of 3 years of experience.

Duties/Functions:

  • Develop learner-centered lesson plans
  • Employ teaching strategies and use instructional materials for a variety of learning styles
  • Incorporate current technology in the classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environments
  • Create and model a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population
  • Prepare, distribute, and utilize instructional support materials including syllabi, instructional media, supplementary materials, and other devices as appropriate
  • Update and revise curriculum to maintain compliance with accreditation standards
  • Participate in the development and review of course and program/general education outcomes as appropriate
  • Develop, conduct, and document appropriate assessments of student learning outcomes in courses and programs as appropriate

Administrative:

  • Maintain classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep of assigned equipment
  • Provide for the security of facilities, equipment, and instructional materials while working to maintain safe working conditions
  • Maintain student records (grades & attendance) in accordance with established deadlines using a variety of technology-based programs (Colleauge, WebAdvisor, Moodle, etc)
  • Comply with all applicable college, state, and federal rules and regulations
