Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Material suppliers, primarily in textile industry
  • Sustainability/recycled materials/circularity in textile industry
  • Machinery used in testing operations.
  • Computer programs such as Word and Excel.
  • Strong communication skills, working with MSC suppliers, MSC partners, internal and external customers.  
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations.

Ability To:

  • Research, analyze, and evaluate new service delivery methods and techniques.
  • Work with equipment manufacturers to obtain equipment for the lab.
  • Keep accurate records of samples and test results.   Ability to interpret and communicate test results.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with industry and partner organizations  
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Work independently

Experience 

  • Experience with testing procedures, understanding of sustainability concepts in the textile industry.

Training/Education:

  • Minimum of Associate’s Degree, four-year degree preferred.  Experience in the textile industry a plus.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Position Description

Description

Support MSC research efforts to identify testing methods which promote sustainability and circularity in textiles.  Conduct textile testing for clients in other areas as needed.  Identify equipment needs, train staff in testing methodologies, and perform textile testing procedures for manufacturers, suppliers and retailers nationwide in sustainability and other areas.
 
 Supervision Received
 
Receives administrative direction MSC Lab Manager. 

 

Examples of Duties

 

Examples of Duties

  • Run testing machines, perform tests and fill out the required paperwork for the various tests performed, both for testing related to sustainability and other testing methods used in MSC lab.  
  • Research textile sustainability tests and participate in standards committees determine appropriate sustainability testing methods for textiles.
  • Research, identify, and make recommendations on equipment required to conduct testing related to textile sustainability.  
  • Participate in NC Textile Innovation and Sustainability Engine (NCTISE, ) activities and meetings as needed, and provide reports and data to support Engine.  
  • Work with NCTISE to develop strategies to promote textile sustainability and circularity.
  • Summarize and report MSC activities relating to NCTISE.  
  • Teach and train staff on sustainability testing methods as they are integrated into MSC labs.  
  • Assist in promoting textile sustainability, the MSC, and the NCTISE with trade and professional groups, meeting with groups visiting the MSC as well as participating in outside events as appropriate.
  • Provide tours to outside groups of MSC facilities as needed.
  • Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness for service delivery methods and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Environmental Conditions:

Indoor working environment; working with machinery; periodically working irregular hours; exposure to textile dyes and chemicals.

 Physical Conditions:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of time; some walking; the use of fingers; some heavy lifting.
