Minimum Qualifications

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in education or closely related human services field is required for this position. 

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree is preferred.  Two (2) to three (3) years of experience working with disadvantaged students in post-secondary education is also preferred.

Position Description

Under the direction of the Director of TRIO Programs, performs professional testing, academic counseling and placement services for students in the Student Support Services program.

Interviews and advises prospective students on academic, career, personal, financial, and transfer counseling.  Provides specific workshops on academic topics such as stress management, test taking, etc.  Provides academic planning, advising and monitoring for program students.  Consults with faculty, financial aid, admissions and student services staff on behalf of students.  Establishes a confidential counseling record system and contributes to program record keeping.   Interfaces in the operational aspects of the project including registration, tutoring, etc.  Prepares and organizes cultural events for program students.  Assists with recruitment and retention.  Provides direct tutoring services for students in the program.  Supervises a staff of tutors and assigns and monitors tutors’ work and student progress.  Works with faculty, counselors and administrators to provide assessment of students to determine need and type of services needed.  Coordinates student tutoring.  Serves on institutional committees if appointed.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of Student Support Services purposes and mission.  Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms. Ability to operate a PC and related software. Ability to conduct workshops and presentations for various groups. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, faculty, students, parents, and the general public.  Ability to manage student files and documentation to meet grant expectations and goals. Ability to administer standardized and career diagnostic tests and interpret results.
