Preferred Qualifications: Associate's degree or working toward Associate's degree preferred. Experience in a post-secondary education setting or library preferred. Position is open until filled. Salary: Depends on education and experience.
Position Description
The Learning Resources Technical Assistant provides technical support to students, staff and faculty utilizing computers in the library and CATS Lab. Facilitates and supports students, staff and faculty in purchasing processes for academic textbooks and textbooks adoption for faculty through MCC Virtual Bookstore. Assists with students individually and in groups to provide direct assistance in their access to computer technology and Blackboard. This position is responsible for general library operation functions. Work is not repetitive, is constantly changing. The position requires flexibility and the ability to perform multiple tasks without conflict and in a timely fashion.
- Provide technical support to students, staff and faculty utilizing computers in the library and CATS Lab. Works with students individually and in groups to provide direct assistance in their access to computer technology; orients students to the library/CATS Lab and helps students who are learning to use specific software and hardware.
- Prepares flyers, brochures and other documentation, as needed, for the library, CATS Lab, General Store and Distance Learning program.
- Provide technical support in book ordering process. Assist in processing new books, periodicals, and videos.
- Oversee operations and customer service for the virtual bookstore and perform follow through with vendor for all online consumer issues.
- Coordinate with MCC faculty and vendor representative to identify and obtain the ordering schedule and textbook/teaching materials requirements.
- Communicate information about textbook process (ordering, returning, and buyback) with faculty and students.
- Oversee textbook inventory for CCP and Early College and manages list of unreturned/damaged texts.
- Pick up and sort library mail. Check-in library subscriptions. Maintain online periodical check-in and claiming software. Notify librarian of missing issues in subscriptions. Put current newspapers and magazines on display and file back issues.
- Circulate books using the automated circulation system. Shelve returned books and periodicals. Read shelves on a regular basis to assure that books are filed in proper order. Generate circulation, overdue, interlibrary loan, and other reports on a regular basis. Maintain up-to-date overdue process including regular notification of the Registrar. Reserve and assist with circulation of audiovisual hardware and material.
- Assist library users in the use of the automated card catalog, Internet resources, book location, printing, etc. Provide instruction for NCLIVE and card catalog as needed.
- Assist with library displays. Replace toner cartridges and paper in printers. Refill paper supply for coin-operated copier and notify proper office for repairs. Maintain public service area of library.
- Maintain College scrapbooks and generate monthly publicity report for Board of Trustees. Maintain Library’s copy of the Board of Trustees Policy Manual to ensure currency of information.
- Perform CCLINC interlibrary loan procedures. Perform physical inventory of library holdings.
- Staff circulation desk.
- Serve on assigned College committees and other duties as requested.
