Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Management, Healthcare Administration, Office Administration, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, or related field.  Demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline. 

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Medical Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, or related field.  Previous teaching experience.

 

Position Description

Statement of Primary Purpose

Responsible for ensuring instructional excellence for all assigned courses in accordance with college policies and the mission of the North Carolina Community College System.

Classification

Curriculum faculty, Full-Time, exempt.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

A.  Instructional

1.     Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with course outlines and published course schedule.

2.     Prepare and teach classes in traditional and distance learning modalities

3.     Maintain accurate records for each course taught.

4.     Prepare, review, and update course outlines on a regular basis.

5.     Cooperate in scheduled student evaluations of instructor and course.

6.     Ensure that course content is up-to-date, relevant, accurate, and consistent with state and national accreditation standards (as appropriate).

B.  Program Support

1.     Assist in student recruitment, advising, and retention.

2.     Participate in curriculum advisory committee meetings.

3.     Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as necessary.

C.  Administrative

1.     Keep regular posted office hours as approved by division dean.

2.     Submit all college reports in a timely fashion.

3.     Attend instructor and departmental meetings as required.

4.     Assist in selection and ordering of equipment, supplies, and textbooks.

D.   Professional

1.   Maintain professional competence through the identification and completion of appropriate professional development.

2.   Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.

3.   Attendance is required to perform the essential functions of the position.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Management, Healthcare Administration, Office Administration, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, or related field.  Demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline.

Knowledge and Skills 

•  Thorough knowledge of the field of Office Administration (Office Systems Technology), and working knowledge of Medical Office Administration.

•  Appropriate oral and written communication skills so as to be able to effectively work with students, staff, faculty, and the public.

•  Appropriate interpersonal skills so as to be able to effectively work with students, staff, faculty, and the public.

•  Appropriate organizational and time management skills so as to be able to effectively plan work activities, schedules, priorities, and utilization of resources. 

•  Ability to perform all the essential functions of this job.

Prolonged standing in classroom environment

Working Conditions and Environment

In addition to typical classroom conditions and environment, the instructor must be able to conduct and manage classes in distance learning modalities and may need to work evening and weekend hours.

Equipment Operation

Common office and instructional software including: Microsoft Office Suite, desktop publishing, keyboarding, and Blackboard
