Minimum Qualifications

  • A Current NC Plumbing Contractor License
  • Two years minimum related work experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to provide guidance and advice regarding apprenticeship specifications
  • Proven evidence of leadership ability, supervisory experience and commitment to teamwork
  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with others in a team environment
  • Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college
  • Effectiveness in the following College organizational competencies:
    • Translating College purpose, values, and vision into organizational action
    • Collaborating and facilitating
    • Creating and innovating
    • Anticipating and responding to change
    • Providing vision and leadership
    • Assessment of student learning
    • Engagement and assessment of successful student retention models   

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate in Applied Science Degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Certified Instructor
  • A minimum of 1 year of prior teaching experience in a classroom/lab setting
  • Proven experience in mentoring
  • Prior teaching experience in a community college 

Position Description

 

 

SUMMARY:

NOTE: This is a continuing education instructional position and not a curriculum position.
 
The Instructor, Plumbing is a part-time position responsible for designing and implementing learning strategies for students; developing course syllabi; administering tests; maintaining accurate instructional records; maintaining a safe laboratory environment; communicating equipment and supply needs;  and other duties which support the mission and initiatives of the College.  This position reports directly to the Program Director, Corporate Training and Workforce Development, School of Workforce Development, Continuing Education, and Academic Support.  The Adjunct Faculty, Plumbing has the following responsibilities:
 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotes College mission, values, and vision
  • Teaches assigned courses to meet program needs
  • Evaluates student progress and provides appropriate feedback
  • Prepare lesson plans, course overviews, and course syllabi
  • Uses and promotes appropriate technology to enhance student learning outcomes
  • Plan projects for hands on experience
  • Maintain Equipment and ensure proper storage and security of supplies
  • Ability to provide guidance and advice regarding apprenticeship procedures.
  • Monitoring of shop environment including heating, cooling, ventilating and lighting
  • Determines need for supplies; ensure proper storage
  • Maintains cleanliness of class/grounds/lab area
  • Assists in the evaluation of courses and programs
  • Prepares and submits attendance records, reports, and grades established by institutional policy
  • Performs other tasks as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the College

ADA SUMMARY:

ADA requirements for this position include critical thinking skills with the ability to process information and exercise good judgment in the collection, evaluation, and analysis of data, and student assessment, curriculum development, and program review.  Other requirements include ease of mobility in supervising students in classroom/lab settings, carrying supplies and other instructional materials, ability to move, climb, or crawl under equipment or in lab settings, use of keyboard, effective use of all forms of communication (oral, written, visual, auditory), and the ability to perform general teaching duties.
