Required: Bachelor’s degree in behavioral, social sciences, education, or related areas. Commitment to the advancement of socially, economically, and educationally deprived populations. Specific knowledge of career counseling, educational opportunities, and financial aid beneficial.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree and/or experience with socially, economically, and educationally deprived populations. Experience with African American men and adolescents. Experience in higher education.
Under the supervision of the Director, Learning Coaches are responsible for working one-on-one with program participants and serving as their primary point of contact for all programs and services that support student engagement, retention, academic progress, social/student development, and success. Further, the Learning Coach is responsible for academic, personal, social, and other case-management services for their prescribed caseload of participants.
Additional duties include coordinating, collecting, distributing and responding to at-risk behaviors, grades, attendance, and midterm reports. Conducts student orientations for students, faculty, and staff. Facilitates individual and group counseling sessions. Maintains individual student records. Assist participants with exploring career fields, career goals, scheduling courses and post secondary transfer. Organize and conduct visits to four-year colleges/universities. Coordinates workshops on financial aid. Updates and prepares publications pertaining to scholarships, advising, financial aid, career trends, college survival skills, and job readiness skills. Establishes partnerships with churches, community agencies, adult education programs, businesses, and community organizations. Participates in staff development and serves on institutional community committees. Performs other duties as assigned.
