Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism or English with writing and editing emphasis, public administration or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of one to three years' experience in public relations, communications, journalism or related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in communications, public relations, journalism or English with writing and editing emphasis, public administration or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of three to five years' experience in public relations, communications, journalism or related field.
  • Experience working with educational, governmental and/or non-profit institutions.
  • Strong interviewing, writing, editing, organizational and computer skills.
  • Photography and videography experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Position Description

The role of the Public Information Officer (PIO) is to promote and advance the college's mission, vision and goals by building support for the institution and the college brand through the promotion of the college's major initiatives, programs, publications, advertisements, services and events to various audiences. The PIO is responsible for developing and directing internal and external communications, including public information, media relations and government relations. Responsibilities include writing, editing and disseminating information and communications, maintaining the public image of the institution and assisting with special projects and events as needed. The PIO keeps the president informed about community matters which impact the college as well as serves on the Crisis Communication Team.
