Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

Advanced network design and implementation.

Microsoft and Linux server based Operating Systems and Hypervisors.

Management of state of the art network and telecommunications.

Ability to:

Quickly and efficiently, identify and resolve technical issues.

Maintain and manage an extensive electronic mail system.

Demonstrate a thorough understanding of telephony systems.

Establish and maintain working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.

Experience and Training Guidelines

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

Two years of experience in maintaining local area networks.

Experience with telecommunications, voicemail, and call accounting systems.

Training:

An Associate’s degree from an accredited college in Network Communications Technology, Information Systems, Cyber Security, or equivalent.

Certifications:
CompTIA Network+ – is preferred
CompTIA: Security+ – is preferred
CCNA – is preferred
CEH: Certified Ethical Hacker – is preferred

Position Description

Announcement Summary

Fayetteville Technical Community College is seeking qualified applicants for a Senior Network Communications Technician. To perform a variety of skilled and technical tasks by maintaining the College’s voice and data network infrastructure; to include the installation operation and maintenance of the following: networking equipment, telecommunication equipment, physical and virtual servers, peripheral equipment, and other data processing equipment required to assist in the College’s daily functions. Receives general direction from the Network Administrator of Management Information Services (MIS).

Duties

Install, operate, maintain and upgrade Microsoft, Linux, and VMware hosts.

Install and maintain electronic mail systems.

Install, operate, and maintain Next Generation Firewalls.

Install, operate, and maintain core and edge routers and switches.

Provide hands-on assistance and troubleshoot phone equipment failures; service issues for campus users

Maintain network management systems.

Monitors network performance for potential security breaches, bottlenecks, abuse or problems.

Assist in the design, installation, implantation, documentation, and maintenance of the College’s disaster recovery processes.

Assist in the design, installation, and implementation of the voice and data network infrastructure.

Provide Tier 3 technical support for both hardware and software issues.
Respond to and resolve helpdesk work order requests.

Configure and maintain VOIP phone system to include setting up new phones. Setting up voicemail, updating call center configuration.

Frequently required to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and walk.

Occasionally required to climb stairs.

Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Occasionally required to perform general maintenance activities as related to the voice and data network infrastructure.

Occasionally required to perform maintenance activities and/or respond to emergencies outside the scope of a “normal” working day, 8 am to 5 pm.

Required to use hands and fingers to manipulate or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach the arms and hands.

Required to hear audible equipment indicators and verbal communications within the work environment.

Must see with sufficient close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception; and focus adjustment to differentiate light/color intensity and evaluation perceivable changes in the environment.

Perform related duties as assigned.
