Minimum Qualifications

  • Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, & Professional Experience: 
  • Bachelor’s degree (must be from a regionally accredited institution) 
  • 1-2 years of work experience in a related area within a higher education setting  
  • Basic Budget Management experience  
  • Experience planning and organizing events 
  • Customer Service Experience 
  • Demonstrated involvement with a diverse student population /traditional college age persons  
  • Demonstrated background in leading collaborative efforts between multiple constituencies including, faculty, staff, students, and members of the local community. 
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written skills to effectively communicate with students, faculty, and the general public  
  • Ability to efficiently multi-task, complete independent work assignments, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines  
  • Ability to travel out-of-state as well as locally to participate in meetings and conferences. 
  • Ability to provide leadership in anticipating and responding to change 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven leadership ability in working with students and the general public 
  • Knowledge of Campus Labs Engage software 
  • Knowledge of community college practices and philosophy
  • Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college 

Position Description

The Student Life Support Specialist is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Student Life.  The Specialist will assist in planning, promoting, and managing a broad spectrum of campus activities and programs which will help cultivate a vibrant and active campus life.  The Student Life Support Specialist’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with creating, implementing, and coordinating Student Life programs on the Davidson and Davie campuses.  
  • Explores non-traditional programming options that will connect students to the college experience.
  • Responsible for booking and contracting with entertainment agencies, speakers, and vendors for Davidson and Davie campuses.
  • Works with the business and finance office to coordinate payments and other event logistics for Student Life events.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Student Life, serves as the Student Government Association co-advisor and assists as necessary with Student Government Association; specifically through meetings, events, organizational communication, conferences, teambuilding sessions, and leadership retreats.
  • Assist student clubs by providing training to advisors and officers to ensure departmental and college guidelines are followed, reviews club constitutions to meet compliance with college policies and procedures.
  • Assists in creating and editing student flyers, posters, literature and other materials prepared by student groups for distribution.
  • Train, supervise and schedule student worker (s) ensuring college policies and procedures are followed.
  • Coordinates all travel arrangements for department directors, student athletes, fitness center staff, and student government officers including submitting travel authorization forms, securing accommodations and making reservations.
  • Monitors and assists with reconciling the student life & athletics budgets.
  • Maintains an up-to-date student athletic directory.
  • Coordinates supply orders for Storm Athletic teams including uniforms, sports gear and equipment.
  • Assist with the day to day oversight of the food pantry, including but not limited to; stocking shelves, training volunteers, client in-take, data collection, and food inventory.
  • Assists the Student Life director with various projects.
  • Attends college meetings and serves on college committees as appropriate.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned that support the mission and initiatives of the Office of Student life and the College.

Salary Range: 

$25,691 - $33,398 based on candidate's experience, education, and the state budget
