Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree in a computer related field desired or a combination of at least two years of college education and proven progressive work experience in an IT environment.  At least two years of experience in an administrative multi-user computing environment.  Previous job responsibilities should include computer operations installation, application software analysis, and scripting.  Academic environment experience is highly desired.

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Requirements: Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds).  Tasks may require extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

 

Data Conception:  Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.

 

Interpersonal Communications:  Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving assignments and/or direction from supervisor and giving assignments and/or direction to subordinates.

Verbal Aptitude:  Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow and give verbal and written instructions; and to teach and counsel employees.  Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with persons using computer / GIS terminology.

 

Numerical Aptitude:  Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, to multiply and divide, to utilize mathematical formulas, to determine percentages and decimals and to determine time.  Must be able to use practical applications of fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion. Must be able to use advanced applications of algebra, statistics, geometry and linear programming.

 

Form/Spatial Aptitude:  Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various information.

 

Motor Coordination:  Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes using office machinery; and to operate motor vehicles.

 

Manual Dexterity:  Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, keyboards, office equipment, control knobs, buttons, switches, catches, etc. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

 

Color Discrimination and Visual Acuity:  Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color; requires the visual acuity to determine depth perception, peripheral vision, inspection for small parts; preparing and analyzing written or computer data, etc.

Knowledge of Work:Has considerable knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of Pitt Community College as such pertains to the performance of the essential duties of System Administrator. Has considerable knowledge of principles and practices of computer program design, support, and maintenance. Position Description

Under general supervision, responsible for implementation, maintenance, coordinating, facilitating, and supporting the operations of the Administrative Computing Section of Information Technology and Services. The department has responsibilities for the planning, implementation, and support of our campus-wide ERP system and other administrative support systems and hardware. Work involves interfacing with end users, technical staff, and college leadership; providing technical leadership and supporting the innovative deployment of technology to support the mission of the college. Supervised by Senior System Administrator.

Coordinates daily work activities with Senior System Administrator.

 

Evaluates and completes work order requests routinely.  Assists with complex/problem situations. 

 

Gathers information on administrative user’s situation; diagnoses the problem or request and if necessary refers to documentation or external resources to resolve the situation.

 

Provides support for PCC’s SIS and all third party software on desktops.  Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves printer, and personal computer hardware problems that relate to administrative computing.

 

Manages, installs, and troubleshoots externally provided proprietary administrative software and operating systems from the North Carolina Community College system and other outside vendors.

 

Maintains administrative computing servers and peripherals including hardware, operating systems, and software.

 

Configures, maintains, supports, and administers Administrative Computing Data Stores including, but not limited to, NetApp Storage Area Network and SUN Storage Area Network. Primary Storage Area Network Administrator for NetApp SAN for PCC’s ERP/SIS.  Responsible for the operation and maintenance of PCC’s Storage Area Network.

 

Provides consultation and advice to internal customers on user access, correct use of PCC’s proprietary SIS, and use of proprietary user interface. 

 

Manages, schedules, and maintains backups, in concert with Senior Systems Administrator, for physical and virtual administrative computing servers including Colleague, VMWare, Windows and UNIX.

 

Maintains compliance for North Carolina State and IT standards for Administrative Computing. Administers security procedures for Administrative Computing including general security for the equipment as well as access to data.

 

Works with departmental IT staff to implement and coordinate server connectivity, client PC software, document scanning, and security.

 

Prepares system configuration documentation; updates documentation when changes are made.
