Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree in an IT related field.
Three years' experience supporting a Unix/Linux environment.
Ability to work nights and weekends as needed to perform maintenance and support related to the server environment as required

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in an IT related field.
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
Two or more years' experience in Unix/Linux system administration and system performance, tuning and monitoring tools.
One or more years' experience with Red Hat Linux and/or IBM AIX systems.
One of more years' experience with Unix/Linux shell and/or Perl scripting.
Knowledge of enterprise backup applications that utilize file level or block level methodologies.
ITIL Foundation certification.

Position Description

Pay Grade: Professional 6 

The position will provide a high level of expertise in the provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, monitoring and performing system administration maintenance of Unix/Linux based applications supporting the college's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and other enterprise applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES (*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. *Responsible for the design, installation, configuration and support of a large, enterprise physical and virtual Unix/Linux server environment in accordance with established standards and operational requirements.
*Performs proactive monitoring to ensure high availability including verifying integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and applications and verifying completion of scheduled jobs in compliance with established security standards.
*Responsible for responding to hardware and software failures by determining root causes, developing and executing appropriate remedial actions and following established communication plans for informing ITS leadership and impacted customers.
*Performs routine backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and related data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media and are cycled off site as needed for business continuity purposes.
*Develops, documents and executes processes for performing Unix/Linux system data recovery to ensure integrity and completeness of backup procedures.
*Responsible for installing Unix/Linux operating system patches and upgrades as needed including supporting administrative tools and utilities during scheduled maintenance windows and in accordance with change management procedures.
*Performs ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
*Responsible for installing, configuration and maintenance of Unix/Linux software applications including Apache, Tomcat, MySQL and other utilities.

Serves as a backup to other System Administrators in supporting all College applications regardless of the platform.
Provides periodic reports on Unix/Linux system availability and performance metrics to ITS management.
Assists with negotiating vendor contracts in support of hardware and software solutions to ensure compliance with established service level agreements.
Researches and recommends innovative, automated approaches for system administration tasks.
Writes and updates technical procedures, standards and knowledgebase for supported systems

Participates in projects to implement new technologies and/or application system that support needs of the College.

Knowledge and understanding of current technologies needed by large educational institutions and impact on delivery of IT services.
Demonstrated experience in the development of technical and user documentation.
Ability to multi-task and set priorities within tight timelines and high client expectations.
Ability to understand and clearly relate to other members of the college technical specifications and general components of end user device hardware and software.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations.
Strong analytical, project management, customer service and team-oriented interpersonal skills.
Fosters an open, collaborative relationship with faculty, students and staff to identify hardware and software needs.
