Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a degree in human services, human resource management, psychology, business, or social work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license

Position Description

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Career Advisor will perform case management functions, and other tasks associated with the recruitment, assessment, training, and placement of WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) eligible customers.

The duties of the WIOA Career Advisor include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure that all program compliance measures are met as defined in the WIOA charter and performance standards
  • Responsible for a variety of workforce development activities including recruitment, intake, assessment, eligibility determination, case management, enrollment, counseling, education/employment placement, and follow-up of program participants and making referrals to other county service agencies 
  • Oversee customer care through continuity and complete services including timely documentation and review of services to customers
  • Meet individually with customers to develop an Individual Education/Employment plan and assist with locating appropriate services to meet the plan objectives
  • Perform assessments including administering and interpreting of career and aptitude inventories and testing for math and reading skills
  • Identify potential employers and develop work site agreements, contracts, or related documents; conduct follow-up and evaluation of participant placements to provide counseling and problem-solving for clients and employers; assist clients with transportation and other basic needs 
  • Participate in marketing of program and monthly staff meetings

Working Conditions 

  • Office environment 
  • Infrequently lifting and carrying items up to 15 lbs
  • Infrequently bending and twisting at the waist 
  • Evening and weekend work hours; frequently sitting at a desk or workstation using a computer display, keyboard, mouse, and telephone 
  • Infrequently traveling between buildings on campus, between campuses and to off-campus sites
