Minimum Qualifications

:  Bachelor’s degree political science, public administration, communications, journalism, English or closely related curriculum and two years of professional experience in lobbying, governmental relations, political campaigns, broadcasting, communications, or public relations; or an Associate’s degree and four years of professional experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

A Community College degree or credential would be viewed positively.

The North Carolina Community College System (System Office) is a statewide network of 58 public community colleges. The system enrolls over 500,000 students annually. It is the 3rd largest in the nation based on the number of colleges. It also provides data to the North Carolina Learning Object Repository by collecting, contributing, and sharing digital learning resources for use in traditional or distance learning environments. NC Community Colleges System Office has an opening for a Legislative Liaison, in the Government Relations Section of the Executive Division. The recruitment salary: $71,774

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:  NC Community Colleges System Office is seeking a motived, team-oriented problem solver to play a key role in the legislative efforts. Building strong and trusted relationships with law makers is vital to the NCCCS’s ability to provide educational opportunities for students that delivers the skilled workforce required to continue the robust economic development in North Carolina. The legislative liaison will work within the Government Relations division of the North Carolina Community College System which serves as a bridge between the legislative branch and the community college system and the 58 NC Community Colleges.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/AND ABILITIES: Understanding of the legislative process; Critical thinking, problem solving, listening skills, ability to quickly build relationships, effective communications, public speaking, ability to multi-tasking, tracking legislation, and develop lobbying skills.

PREFERENCES: Prior experience working in the public sector, political arena, education, business or as a legislative liaison would be beneficial. Internships in similar roles would also be considered along with references.
