Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in education, behavioral sciences, leadership, or a closely related field with two years of increasingly responsible academic, career, and personal coaching experience or other relevant academic advising functions.

Must possess both written and oral communication skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and operational functions of a personal computer.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the financial aid process.
Experience developing and maintaining a learner-centered and culturally responsive approach to advising and case management for new and continuing students.

Experience with advising students holistically throughout the entire college experience.

Experience supporting students’ progression toward their educational and career goals through the use of various evidence-based strategies.

Position Description

Duties include but are not limited to:

Provide academic advising, registration assistance, and vocational and personal support to students using a case management approach.

Function as a team member and work collaboratively with Success Coaches, as well as faculty, staff, and leadership from Curriculum Programs, Continuing Education, Financial Aid, Military and Veterans Programs, and the Student Services Division.

Serve as an advocate for academic success and career development by forging relationships between faculty, students, and staff members of the College.

Provide students with academic success strategies and refer students for academic interventions including tutoring, interpreting, note-taking and related support services.

Participate in new student orientations, open house events, and recruiting activities.

Understand and interpret Academic Evaluation/Education Plans to ensure students are progressing towards the completion of their academic plans.

Maintain currency in academic program requirements, to include prerequisite and corequisite courses and competitive admissions processes.

Register students new to FTCC into introductory and/or related courses for their chosen program and provide registration support for current students.

Maintain currency on College policies, procedures, and program requirements to assist students throughout their academic journey.

Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.

Provide friendly, timely, and accurate customer service to students, faculty, and staff.

Refer students to Success Coaches, as appropriate, for guidance and support in addressing non-academic barriers, including but not limited to, male mentoring, college connections, success closet, food pantry, and other student support services or engagement opportunities available on campus.

Perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
