Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited institution is preferred. Bachelor’s degree is acceptable with experience.
Two years of experience employed in an advising or guidance capacity is preferred.
Experience working with and a demonstrated sensitivity to understanding the needs and concerns of a diverse student population, many of whom are first generation college students, is essential to the incumbent's success.
Experience working with students in a higher education setting preferred.

Position Description

Job Summary

The part-time Student Services Advisor will provide advising and success coaching to incoming new students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Work as a hands-on educational planner, academic advisor, mentor and coach to new students - instilling a sense of excitement regarding student success, retention, and graduation.
Assist students with the challenges balancing academic life with external commitments and situations that may interfere with their ability to be successful students.
Promote academic success by continually monitoring student progress throughout the semester.
Work with students and faculty to ensure that individual advisees are engaged with the College and are maintaining satisfactory academic progress.
Assist students through the new enrollment and re-enrollment process each semester.
Provide career and program advising, academic planning, and information to assist with working to resolve any holds on student accounts.

Related Responsibilities:

Keep current on all aspects of academic programs, academic support services, student information system procedures, enrollment processes and procedures, College policies, mission and philosophy.
Serve on college-wide committees.
Review policies/procedures and recommend changes with the goal of improving the student experience.
Participate in professional development to enhance and increase skills and knowledge.
Complete other duties and assignments as directed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience Requirements

Be a highly-motivated self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
The ability to multi-task, while paying special attention to detail.
Ability to collaborate with academic departments in managing all aspects of advising.
Knowledge of the college enrollment process including applying for federal financial aid.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, student information systems, database administration, and internet/email platforms.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to develop interpersonal and organizational relationships.

Surroundings/Environment:
Standard office environment, usually indoors away from the elements, with moderate noise.

Physical Effort:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain a stationary position for an extended period; move about the office, operate and position computers and files, as needed; and frequently communicate with others. The employee may occasionally move up to 15 pounds. Work may include operation of a motor vehicle.

Scheduling:
This is a part-time position working 20 hours per week on average but increasing to 25 hours per week during peak enrollment periods. Working hours may be between 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, but with one evening per week on Tuesday until 6 pm. Must be available to work occasionally on weekends and evenings.
