OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:

TRIO Student Support Services at Craven Community College is committed to creating and maintaining a supportive environment for low income, first-generation and disabled students that encourage academic excellence and integrity, student success, and individual responsibility through leadership and service to increase retention and the graduation rates of its participants. The Academic Success Coordinator- TRIO is a federally funded grant position.

NOTE: The TRIO SSS Program is funded by the Department of Education and is in the first year of a 5-year funding cycle.  Annual appointments are subject to annual reauthorization of federal funds under the Department of Education. Continued appointments are contingent upon the availability of funding.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with student targeted recruitment, outreach, and review of applications of all TRIO Student Support Services Program 
  • Develops a student individual Student Success Plan (ISP) with each new participant and utilizes the plan to monitor student progress
  • Conducts outreach to students referred by partners in the College
  • Provides counseling\advising designed to alleviate barriers to student success  
  • Serves as the primary advisor for TRIO participants including: providing information about academic requirements, appropriate selection of courses, academic planning registration, and add/withdrawal for classes 
  • Makes referrals to local mental health resources in conjunction with the Director 
  • Coordinates returning student retention and activities, incorporating new students each semester 
  • Plans and implements cultural enrichment activities, trips, and transfer trips for program participants each semester 
  • Enhances the development of participants non-cognitive skills through group activities, cultural enrichment, career preparation workshops, mentoring, and leadership program 
  • Documents all contacts and services electronically and in students’ files, maintaining confidentiality of student data 
  • Assists with the Annual Performance Report (APR) 
  • Compiles and analyzes data for reports: prepares and submits reports as requested 
  • Participates in the open house, new student orientation and various college-wide events 
  • Provides input and assists in the creation of TRIO SSS materials 
  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College’s mission, core values and goals as it relates to the TRIO SSS Program

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
