OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Academic Support Specialist assists in the delivery of academic support activities and interventions designed to increase student performance, persistence, completion, and graduation rates. This position will assist in the development and implementation of support initiatives within the Academic Support Center. The Academic Support Specialist will work directly with faculty, staff, and students across campus to develop and deliver support programming to students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains a caseload of students that will be receiving targeted interventions that promote success 
  • Provides soft skills and student development skills to students
  • Works with students and the Academic Support Center staff to develop a tutoring plan that fits a student’s individual needs
  • Assists in the preparation of tutoring sessions and training for Academic Support tutors to ensure the tutee’s academic development
  • Assesses the progress and success of content tutoring and support programming on an individual basis 
  • Assists in the identification of high-risk populations and student outreach efforts
  • Assists in the development and delivery of support/personal development activities and workshops 
  • Coordinates and provides individualized interventions for students on financial aid appeal
  • Assists as an embedded tutor in RISE classes as assigned 
  • Assists in the delivery of the “Don’t Cancel Class” Initiative
  • Monitors student participation in support services and collects student outcome information 
  • Communicates with instructors to obtain progress reports on students when needed 
  • Monitors and closes AVISO Early Alert flags as assigned after providing necessary interventions that lead to student success 
  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the college’s mission, core values, and goals

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

Experience as a tutor or in a support environment related to education.

Preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

Experience in student program development and implementation.
