Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in social work, education, or related field. 
  • Passionate about helping to build a brand-new program; creative and innovative; willingness to allow for some unknowns at the beginning. 
  • Excellent human relations skills and be able to work with a variety of individuals (students, instructors, administrators, and the public). 
  • Good analytical skills, attention to detail, the ability to communicate effectively (oral and written), good organizational skills, and the ability to work with deadlines are essential. 
  • Advanced computer skills required, including Microsoft Office software (Excel, Access, and Word), budget, and database management. 
  • Weekends, evenings, and occasional overnight travel are part of the work schedule for this position. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned master’s degree in social work, education, or related field. 
  • Experience in advising 

Position Description

The Access to Achievement Coordinator is a new 12-month full-time position reporting to the Director of the Office of Disability, Inclusion, and Diversity. The coordinator will help fully develop and implement the WCC Life & Work Skills Academy. Responsibilities include advising and advocacy for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including outreach to local schools, businesses, and industry. The position requires flexible hours including occasional nights and weekends. 

Core duties will include the following:

  1. Assist with the development and implementation of the new WCC Life and Work Skills Academy.
  2. Recruit students for the program. Provide campus tours and information, including parent and community information sessions.
  3. Serve as advisor for IDD students in the program. 
  4. Develop and Teach courses for the WCC Life & Work Skills Academy such as employability skills, self-advocacy, financial literacy, and life skills. 
  5. Advocate for inclusion of students in all aspects of college and campus life.
  6. Develop and schedule career awareness learning opportunities including guest speakers, job shadowing, and internships that expose students to various workforce options.
  7. Collaborate with Workforce Development and Community Education (WDCE) to develop workforce credentialed pathways.
  8. Partner with local employers to develop job opportunities for graduates of the program. 
  9. Track caseload of students; document student outcomes; submit reports to the NCCCS biannually. 
  10. Market the program to potential students, families, community agencies, and local employers.
  11. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
