Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Accounting or Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting
  • Five or more years of experience years in a similar position at a post-secondary (Community College, University) institution or in a complex governmental (County, City, Public Schools) organizational setting
  • Flexibility to navigate multiple core business office functions such as purchasing, cashiering, and governmental funds accounting
  • Ellucian’s Colleague ERP experience; or equivalent experience with a higher education ERP
  • Proven record of exceptional working knowledge of business systems and operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of state and/or local government budgets, procurement and purchasing processes, and cashiering
  • Experience in following and meeting a calendar of periodic reports, prioritizing among multiple tasks, and meeting established deadlines  
  • Ability to reconcile budgets, cash deposits, and purchase orders 
  • Five years of experience in a governmental or academic setting; community college experience preferred
  • Proven ability to work collegially among and with peers, and flexibility to move within assigned tasks as workflows and employee absence may dictate
  • Working Ellucian (Colleague) or a business ERP knowledge is preferred

Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Fiscal Services, this position performs varied accounting, business and administrative functions for the Division of Budget and Finance within the College. Activities include supporting and assisting staff assigned to core business functions, including purchasing, cashiering, and State funds reporting. Employee in this position is expected to move nimbly among these and other functions, as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Serves in a support supplemental role to the Accountant for Purchasing and Financial Aid and the Accountant/Cashier for Accounts Receivable, and as the principal person responsible for preparing monthly reports for State funds to the Division of Finance and College Operations in the System Office.

 

  • Assists with the College’s purchasing function, including accuracy of vendor, commodity number, price, description and account code; preparing and distributing purchase orders to vendors using the North Carolina E-Procurement System and Colleague; assists faculty and staff in obtaining bids for goods and services; and attempts to resolve problems with purchasing, shipping and receiving goods. Assists with preparing required purchasing flexibility and HUB reports.

 

  • Assists the Accountant/Cashier for Accounts Receivable with collecting, receipting, participating in the daily cash analysis, and depositing all monies for State, County and Institutional funds in compliance with Federal, State and College policies and procedures. Assists with the processing of student tuition refunds, as directed. 

 

  • With direction from Director of Fiscal Services, assists with updating and maintaining general ledger account codes; prepares journal entries; and, prepares, edits and balances month-end State funds reports for electronic submission to the System Office.

 

  • Serves with the Accountant for Purchasing and Financial Aid as a liaison with the financial aid office and the BCC Foundation Office regarding scholarships and awards. Assists with the College’s financial aid accounts receivable records. Assists with the analysis of and maintenance of student accounts.

 

  • Accepts assignments from Supervisor for other tasks, and assists other Accountants in the Business Office as directed.
