Accounting Assistant - Accounts Receivable

SALARY:$33,600.00 - $35,500.00 Annually

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Accounting Assistant- Accounts Receivable is responsible for performing a variety of diversified accounting duties including accounts receivable, sponsorship billing preparation, cash receipting and other areas of Financial Services as needed. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in maintaining student files for scholarships and sponsorship information; prepares sponsorship invoices and the submission of grades
  • Prepares and mails student statements on a monthly basis
  • Assists in the student refund process
  • Receives, verifies, records and issues receipts for all College cash collections; prepares balancing sheet for daily closeout
  • Assists with student registration by collecting tuition and applicable fees
  • Provides information and assistance to internal and external customers through email, walk-in and telephone
  • Serves as backup cashier
  • Prepares departmental requisitions
  • Assists club members or advisors by printing out detailed activity reports from the general ledger or balance sheet for their use
  • Processes in person, electronic and phone payments for registration and various fees
  • Serves as backup in receiving, reviewing, and processing of travel related documents
  • Assists with various accounting tasks and provides assistance to colleagues within the office
  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College's mission, core values and goals

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Two (2) years' professional work experience in accounts receivable.

Preferred:
Associate's degree in Accounting from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge

  • Methods, techniques and practices of clerical and computerized report preparation, record keeping and filing systems, and auditing
  • Basic accounting and bookkeeping terminology and practices

 
Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office which includes Word and Excel, and operation of standard office equipment, including a 10-key calculator
  • Understand and apply specific instructions and procedures, current guidelines, system updates and revisions, and policy changes
  • Proficient recording, compiling, summarizing and analyzing data
  • Effectively manage time and prioritize tasks

  • Communicate effectively, both written and orally
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
