Minimum Qualifications

An Associate’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution with three to five years of experience in payroll or accounting is required.  Must have experience with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Must have experience with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy. 

Preferred Qualifications

 Experience with Colleague Enterprise Resources Planning System is preferred.  Experience working in the Community College System, a National Career Readiness Certificate and Bilingual are preferred. 

Position Description

Duties include updating personnel files for all employees for pay purposes; collect, record and verify payroll data to include time sheets, leave records, curriculum and continuing education verification reports, contracts and miscellaneous deductions. The Specialist will prepare monthly and part-time payrolls, print and verify reports relating to payroll such as payroll register, retirement reports and deductions. The Specialist will reconcile and remit all employer and employee deductions and taxes; prepare annual application for longevity pay benefits; and complete quarterly tax reports. The Candidate will prepare annual W-2s and related year end reports; transmit and receive electronic files for payroll deductions, taxes, direct deposit, and checks. In addition, the Candidate will prepare deposits for taxes and deductions; run the retirement and the annual workers’ compensation audit reports; and prepare the Financial Statement payroll accrual at the year-end. The Specialist will work closely with Human Resources to process short-term disability, workers’ compensation payments, E-benefits, and leave without pay. This position will work closely with other staff members of the college and the Business Office, and will perform other duties as assigned by the Controller to ensure the efficient operation of the department.
