Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration; 1-3 years’ experience in the accounting or bookkeeping field; or 3+ years’ experience in accounts receivable, accounts payable, or cash management in lieu of degree; strong organizational skills, ability to multitask. Excellent communications skills (written and verbal), knowledge of Microsoft Office (specifically Excel), experience with accounting software, Email, handling cash and making deposits, and general ledger experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Meet minimum requirements and have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.

Position Description

The primary purpose of the Cashier/Institutional Accounts Payable is to properly record college funds received in addition to processing institutional accounts payable.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Process all incoming cash receipts for tuition and fees, reimbursements, departmental deposits, and various other payments.
  • Verification of all cash on campus through periodic audits of departmental petty cash accounts.
  • Distribute Business Office mail daily, including distribution of invoices to appropriate individuals.
  • Reconcile Fed Ex and UPS invoices to charge correct accounts.
  • Enter parking tickets into parking module to post to student accounts.
  • Assist Accounts Receivable Technician in monitoring collections and past due accounts.
  • Process Institutional Funds payables weekly; including, but not limited to the following:

1.    Voucher all invoices for payment
2.    Mail outgoing accounts payable checks
3.    Reconcile purchase orders
4.    Maintain accounts payable file records

  • Process State Funds payables weekly; including but not limited to the following:

1.    Voucher all invoices for payment
2.    Mail outgoing accounts payable checks
3.    Reconcile Purchase Orders
4.    Maintain accounts payable file records

  • Serves as backup to the College switchboard.
  • Maintain office records and filing system as it pertains to the cashier position.
  • Maintain required databases for college purposes as they pertain to the cashier position.
  • Perform additional accounting functions within the Business Office as assigned.
  • Participate in college activities, functions and committees.
  • Interact with students, the public, the community, and co-workers in a cooperative, courteous, and professional manner.
  • May drive college-owned vehicles for business purposes.

Licensing Requirement
Active NC Driver's License required if position requires the operation of college vehicle as part of duties.  Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Background check required.

Physical Demands 
Ability to:  Work flexible hours; some night work. Must be able to remain stationary at a desk for extended periods of time; Some standing;  Some walking; Frequently communicates with students, potential students, faculty, staff and general public regarding inquiries and must be able to exchange knowledgeable information in these situations; Repetitive motion from computer/keyboard/switchboard usage.  
 
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a fast paced office environment.  Work pressure may exist due to combination of high call volume and face to face office inquiries 
 
Hazard Assessment
Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks
 
Personal Protective Equipment
The college may from time to time provide safety training that includes the use of PPE equipment that may protect the user against the potential for health or safety risks at work
