Position Description
Job Summary:
The Accounting Technician is responsible for observing all departmental accounting processes and participating in projects as requested.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- voucher, print and prepare checks, both paper and e-checks, for distribution for all funds; and all other functions of accounts payable
- scan, index, file and electronically capture all financial services documents
- complete 1099 forms for contracted vendors
- assist with year-end data processing, reconciliations, document research, and data compilation
- reconcile P-card charges with receipts/statements
- audit invoices and send to appropriate individuals for signature approval for payment
- process and monitor paperwork for incoming Independent Contractor service agreements
- complete year end AP spreadsheet, supply inventory, and prepaids
- distribute the interoffice mail and complete daily check log

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills
- ability to create accurate, professional, and complex spreadsheets using Excel or Word, including mail merge
- be able to sustain individual progress to ensure the completion of work to meet federal, state and institutional deadlines
- ability to articulate understandable directions orally and in written form
- ability to maintain an environmentally safe and professional work area
- self-motivated and ability to work with little supervision
- demonstrated ability to schedule and organize workflow
- have a valid North Carolina Driver License
- demonstrated ability to work efficiently and maintain poise under pressure with frequent interruptions
- tact, energy, and resourcefulness in dealing with a variety of situations and people
- ability to maintain a professional and positive relationship with students and outside institutions
- an understanding of and commitment to the unique nature and role of the College
Surroundings/Environment:
Standard office environment, usually indoors away from the elements, with moderate noise.
Physical Effort:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain a stationary position for an extended period; move about the office, operate and position computers and files, as needed; and frequently communicate with others. The employee may occasionally move up to 25 pounds
Scheduling:
This is a full-time position, working Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. An employee in this positon must be available to work flexible hours during peak periods.
Travel:
Local travel is required, including between campus locations. Out of state travel is limited, but may be required for special trainings/conferences.
