Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with one to three years of customer service experience is required. Applicants must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required. The candidate must be able to work independently, prioritize tasks, make minor decisions, and exercise good judgment. A valid North Carolina driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
Preferred Qualifications
A Master’s degree and experience working in a post-secondary educational setting are preferred. Experience working with a diverse student population is preferred. A National Career Readiness Certificate and bilingual are preferred.
Position Description
The Achievement Coach will provide outreach to address student barriers to ensure college readiness, retention, and completion of academic programs; meet with new students and help them through the advising/registration process, as well as monitor their progress towards graduation through grade reports, instructor referrals (Early Alert), and student self-referrals. The Coach will create a support system for new and returning students and refer students to programs to foster student success, retention, and completion; create degree completion plans for individual certificates and degrees and serve as a liaison between academic departments and students; coordinate resources and collaborate with staff members across divisions and departments to enhance students' academic success. The Achievement Coach will maintain contact with students utilizing early alert software, as well as through meetings, telephone conversations, and email and keep a log of student interactions; respond in a timely, empathetic, and accurate manner to student inquiries and create an inviting atmosphere for students to feel supported, welcomed, and comfortable. The Coach will work with the Title III Project Director and Institutional Effectiveness to monitor and utilize institutional research data related to course success to guide academic interventions in high-risk courses, certificate and degree declaration, and completion; perform all other duties as directed.
