Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:
• subject matter education and/or training and experience that have both the breadth and depth needed to ensure effective teaching in the appropriate subject areas per the guidelines as adopted by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and any appropriate governing agency
• Master’s degree in Fine Arts in Art, Visual Arts, or Studio Art preferred; or Master’s degree in related field with 18 graduate hours in Art, Visual Arts, or Studio Art
• demonstrated experience in teaching in a community college setting is a plus
• experience with diverse populations strongly preferred
• prefer a broad background of academic coursework
• prefer prior experience with online instruction

Position Description

This position is primarily responsible for designing and implementing art learning strategies for students; developing course syllabi and instructional materials; maintaining instructional records; implementing strategies for student retention; developing and evaluating courses, programs and services; participating in College activities and committees; and other duties which support the mission and initiatives of the College.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• be thoroughly prepared for each lecture/studio class
• teaches assigned courses in classroom settings to meet program needs including, but not limited to, day, evening, weekend, and distance courses
• evaluates student progress and provides appropriate feedback
• develops course syllabi and provides appropriate written information to students concerning course evaluation and criteria
• explores, assesses, and implements appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning outcomes
• prepares and submits instructional records, reports, and grades established by institutional policy

Surroundings/Environment:
Standard classroom environment, usually indoors, away from elements, with moderate noise.

Physical Effort:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain a stationary position for an extended period; move about the classroom, operate and position computers, as needed; and frequently communicate with students. The employee may occasionally move up to 15 pounds.

Scheduling:
This is a part-time position, with scheduling based on curriculum needs. Classes meet during the day, evening and online.

Travel:
Local travel may be required, including between campus locations.
