Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required and at least five years of work experience. Must be able to teach on the main campus of Wayne Community College. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products, excellent oral and written communication skills, being a self-starter and team player, and the ability to work collaboratively with others are required.
Preferred Qualifications
Technical training or a construction degree from a regionally accredited institution is preferred. Familiarity with the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum and certifications are preferred. Bilingual in English and Spanish and experience working with a diverse population is preferred.
Position Description
The Carpentry instructor is responsible for teaching a skill-based continuing education course. This course is designed to cover basic carpentry skills associated with residential framing including concrete forms, walls, roofs, and foundation systems. Topics include safe use of tools, implementation of standard practices, and overall general construction framing. The Instructor will develop, update, and implement curriculum and educational materials and methods used to advance learning in the classroom. The Instructor will organize and maintain class areas, including physical facilities, equipment, inventory, and materials in a clean, neat operating condition. Must maintain accurate class attendance records and submit reports and administrative paperwork in a timely manner.
