Minimum Qualifications

The Nursing Adjunct Clinical Instructor must be a registered professional nurse who, under the direction of the course coordinator, is responsible for guiding the students’ learning experiences to achieve the objectives of the course of study. Adjunct clinical faculty will guide and direct the learning experiences of students through knowledge, skills, and motivation. Members of the faculty agree to be accessible to students, other faculty, staff, and those making inquiries to the College.

Essential Functions

 

  • Demonstrates commitment to students’ achievement of curriculum objectives and outcomes.
  • Remains up to date on discipline specific technology and instructional technologies.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Develops professional relationships and show courtesy and respect while working with faculty and students; this includes respecting the confidentiality of information shared while interacting
  • Discourages any form of harassment, bullying, and/or abrasive behavior directed at colleagues, students, and campus visitors. 
  • Maintains skill proficiency and assumes responsibility for instruction of determined clinical and skill lab content utilizing current best practice.
  • Evaluates written assignments of students according to outlined criteria.
  • Prepares written clinical orientation materials for students.
  • Orients students to the clinical setting.
  • Selects patient assignments in conjunction with current or previously learned course concepts.
  • Evaluates student performance in clinical setting in accordance with program policies and practices.
  • Maintains an accurate record of clinical experiences for assigned students in accordance with program policies.
  • Conducts pre- and post-assignment conferences and clinical conferences.
  • Holds a final evaluative conference with each assigned student to discuss prepared summative evaluation of clinical performance.
  • Maintains appropriate course records (attendance sheets, student clinical record, skills checklist, etc.).
  • Submits all college reports in a timely manner.
  • Maintains professional boundaries to include not stepping outside the role of clinical faculty and functioning within the scope of an adjunct faculty member at assigned clinical facility. 
  • Completes clinical hours as designated by course coordinator and clinical facility.
  • Attends departmental and college meetings as scheduled. 
  • Responds professionally and effectively to emails from students, colleagues, Department Chairs, Deans, VPs, and President ina timely and professional fashion.
  • Participates in the implementation and evaluation of the educational program.
  • Advances the college’s mission and Core Values of respect, opportunity, helpfulness, integrity, and excellence.
  • Other duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate and/or necessary by the Dean or Department Chair.

 

Qualifications

  • Unrestricted RN license to practice in NC.
  • Must hold a BSN degree (MSN preferred) in the discipline from an accredited institution. 
  • Teaching experience, particularly in a nursing program, preferred. 
  • Prior to or within the first three (3) years of employment, nursing faculty who teach in a program leading to initial licensures as a nurse shall have preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation that is appropriate to assignment. 
  • 2 years of medical/surgical experience preferred.
  • Possess a strong commitment to the mission of community colleges.
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Have an appreciation of the value of collegiality.
  • Current professional liability insurance at $1,000,000/$3,000,000.
