Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be certified as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • Associates degree in Health Information Technology or similar related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Two years of experience in health information technology, medical coding, billing, records management, and/or IT
  • Self-motivated to meet job responsibilities and support the standards set forth by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM)
  • Ability to work with diverse faculty/student population and demonstrates strong interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or higher, in Health Management or similar field
  • Certifications: RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator); CPC (Certified Professional Coder); CPC-H (Certified Professional Coder-Hospital); Microsoft Office Certifications
  • Experience in teaching health information technology or medical office curriculum in any of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminars
  • Post-secondary teaching and outcome assessment experience in a related field
  • Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery

Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under limited supervision, performs administrative, record keeping, educational, and technical work in instructing students in the classroom setting and/or online instruction. Work involves preparing and delivering lectures/practical exercises; maintaining appropriate documentation for assessment of student learning; preparing, administering, grading periodic tests for all courses; and maintaining records of student attendance as required by the Community College System. Adjunct instructors also maintain documents as needed for enrollment of students. Prepare and submit necessary documentation for continued accreditation. Offer assistance to students outside of class time as needed.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adheres to accreditation requirements and college rules/policies/procedures
  • Teaches assigned HIT/HBI courses in traditional, hybrid, and/or online settings. Prepares lesson plans, updates curriculum, course syllabi, handouts, test, etc.  Responsible for gathering resources for classes, preparing practical exercises, grading assignments, and completing reports/forms related to classes and programs.
  • Maintains open and professional communication with BCC (faculty, staff, supervisors, administration, etc.) and representatives of various healthcare administrations 
  • Remains current with professional development requirements and active in related organizations
  • Maintains a work schedule and assists with advising/counseling of students and special projects
